King Juan Carlos receives a warm welcome at the Sanxenxo Yacht Club

King Juan Carlos has arrived at the Sanxenxo Yacht Club accompanied by his friend Pedro Campos, in whose house he is staying, and his daughter the Infanta Elena to follow the development of the InterRías sailing regatta after spending his first night in Spain since it came out of the country on August 3, 2020.

The mayor of Sanxenxo, Telmo Martín, and a large number of residents were waiting for him there, cheering and shouting "long live the king and long live Spain" to the former head of state, who was smiling and visibly moved, dressed wearing sportswear and leaning on a cane.

The king emeritus has greeted the authorities and some neighbors always accompanied by the first mayor of the town of Pontevedra and an assistant. The emeritus has got down from the passenger seat of the vehicle that he has transferred from the Campos house where he has stayed with his daughter in the town of Pontevedra, where he arrived late yesterday afternoon from Vigo airport after a flight of some eight hours that brought him from Abu Dhabi, where he has his habitual residence.

King Felipe's father will embark from 1:00 p.m. on an inflatable boat to follow the sailing competition, in which boats of the 6mR class participate and which will be held until Sunday afternoon, after greeting the members of the Yacht Club , organizer of the event, for which more than 180 journalists belonging to 100 national and international media have been accredited.

The king emeritus wants to return to Sanxenso in June, where the 6mR class sailing World Championship in which he intends to participate will be held between the 10th and 18th, as explained by the mayor of the Pontevedra town, Telmo Martín. "He wants to defend the title, we already know what the king is like," the mayor told the media after leaving the Campos house, where he had breakfast with the emeritus.

Juan Carlos I, after a homemade dinner, wanted to have a "strong" breakfast this Friday, together with the mayor and Campos, before going to the Real Club Náutico. Campos revealed to the press on Thursday that after a homemade dinner, the emeritus would wake up with fruit and fried eggs, due to his custom that the first meal of the day is "strong."

On this sunny day, many flags fly from the houses of this Galician coastal town and many people are concentrated in the marina.

On Monday, from Vigo, Juan Carlos I will travel by plane to Madrid to hold a meeting with the King and, later, will share a lunch attended by his son, Queen Sofía and other relatives. By mid-afternoon on Monday, he will return to Abu Dhabi.
