Junqueras travels to Latin America to explain the 'process'

The president of Esquerra Republicana, Oriol Junqueras, travels from today until November 22 to several Latin American countries –Colombia, Argentina and Chile– to explain the process and the “state repression” in Catalonia, according to details of his training in a statement.

Junqueras will also take advantage of his stay in Latin America to meet with "senior government representatives from Colombia, Argentina and Chile", to whom he will explain how what he considers to be "repression by the Spanish State" affects the Catalan independence movement.

The Republican leader also plans to meet, beyond the institutional representatives, with spokespersons for movements and organizations defending human rights.

Junqueras is also scheduled to hold several conferences at some universities, such as Rosario (Argentina), Bogotá (Colombia) or Buenos Aires (Argentina).

This trip is the first that Oriol Junqueras has made outside Europe since he was released in 2021, after serving almost four years in prison for organizing the referendum on October 1, 2017 in Catalonia.

Likewise, the trip takes place just after the two partners of the central government, formed by PSOE and United We Can, have activated the parliamentary mechanisms to repeal the crime of sedition in the Penal Code and modify that of public disorder, so that, in In the words of the promoters of the measure, the criminal classification is comparable to that of the countries surrounding Spain.
