José García Buitrón, former senator of Podemos and former manager of the Hospital of A Coruña, dies

The doctor José Manuel García Buitrón, who was a senator for Podemos and manager of the University Hospital of La Coruña, has died this Saturday in Madrid at the age of 77, the party has reported.

The urologist was born in 1945 in Toreno (León), graduated in Medicine in Madrid and pursued his career in Galicia, where he specialized as a surgeon and transplant coordinator and was one of the doctors who performed the first transplant in Galicia, in 1981.

He obtained the act of senator for the En Marea coalition in the A Coruña constituency in the December 2015 elections and has been responsible for health at Podemos Galicia. "A reference for many and many militants with whom we were lucky enough to share project and reflection," the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, tweeted.

On the eve of his death, García Buitrón participated in the meeting of the State Citizen Council held by Podemos in Madrid, as reflected in his last published tweet, which concluded as follows: "We will always be where we are, defending democracy and social progress."

"Few people are capable of leaving the mark left by our colleague José García Buitrón, a pioneer in organ transplants, a defender of public health and a militant of Podemos," the party said in the message announcing his death. .

The spokesman for United We Can in Congress, Pablo Echenique, is another of the leaders of his party who has reflected his sorrow: "Today is a very sad day. The loss is enormous."

So has the Second Vice President of the Government and leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, who has highlighted in her condolences the generosity and intelligence of García Buitrón, while his predecessor in the Second Vice Presidency and former leader of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, has lamented how much they will miss their "friend, partner".
