Itxaso Mardones, journalist from 'Investigative Team', dies at 45

The journalist Itxaso Mardones died last Tuesday, April 23 at the age of 45. The reporter from Vitoria, known for her work on the popular program Investigative Team, has died after several years fighting a serious illness.

It was precisely his program colleagues who were in charge of spreading the sad news on social networks, expressing their sadness, highlighting the importance of Mardones' work and human level within the team and, of course, sending the best wishes to his family.

"Today is a sad day for the Investigation Team," they began by saying from the popular LaSexta program, who assure that Mardones "leaves a gap that is very difficult to fill. "Thank you for your smile, for being such a good companion and for your passion for the journalism."

Others of his colleagues, such as Gloria Serra or the producer of the program, José Romero, have also wanted to send their public condolences through the social network X.com (formerly Twitter). Serra also demonstrated the unexpectedness of the loss of her partner in her message.

"For more than a decade, in the Investigation Team we have shared weddings, births, parties, reunions... I never imagined that there would also be a definitive farewell," Serra noted.

The Basque journalist lived her entire career dedicated to her great passion: communication. As José Romero states in her message, she was "a reference for the program" for many years. Memorable was, for example, the comb that Luis Bárcenas dedicated to him at the airport after returning from a flight that the then treasurer of the Popular Party had, in 2013.

In addition, Itxaso Mardones also collaborated on programs such as España Directo, En las afternoons de Cuatro or Visto y Oído.
