Inland waters to take a good dip

The high temperatures this year lead us to look for alternatives to beaches and swimming pools for those of us who do not have them nearby. Hiding under the shade of a tree in the thickness of the mountain is an option, as is bathing in the river or even a lake. And there is nothing better than cooling off in cold water on a hot day.

Hidden between mountains and towns, the lakes provide us with the necessary coolness to counteract the effects of high temperatures, which is why we propose some of the best destinations in Spain to cope with the heat wave.

Spain has some 2,500 lakes, but bathing is not allowed in all of them, many of them belong to natural parks, such as those of Aigüestortes, Ordesa or the Picos de Europa, where doing so is prohibited.

Where it is possible is in the more than 100 natural pools that exist in our country, which use the plants themselves as a water purification system, thus avoiding chemical products such as chlorine or UV. From north to south, the reservoirs, lakes and pools are at the end of beautiful routes that border the rivers.
