The National Currency and Stamp Factory is preparing a new coin with a value of ten euros to commemorate the fifth centenary of Juan Sebastián Elcano's trip around the world. It will be next Monday, July 4, when it sees the light and, as the Visual Numismatics portal anticipates, a representation of the arrival of the Nao Victoria, with which they went around the world, is reproduced in colors on the reverse.

6,000 units of this silver piece have been minted which, on its other side, shows the portrait of Elcano that is still preserved today in the Naval Museum of Madrid. Below, and horizontally, his name is read.

Another detail is the legend Primus Circumdedisti Me ("the first to circumnavigate me") and occupying the entire bottom of the coin. The compass rose and the coat of arms are not lacking in this piece, which weighs a total of 27 grams.

This is the fourth coin in a series that commemorates the fifth centenary of Juan Sebastián Elcano's trip around the world, which is celebrated in 2022. A series that began in 2019 and has produced one coin per year. The one on July 4 will be the last.

The first was dedicated to the departure of the expedition in 1519, the Royal Mint explained at the time. The second recalls the discovery and passage of the Strait of Magellan. The third reflected the arrival of the expedition to the Moluccas Islands, and, finally, the series culminates with the arrival of the Nao Victoria, commanded by Juan Sebastián de Elcano, to Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Seville.
