Illa rejects a debate outside Catalonia or three as proposed by Aragonès

The PSC candidate for the Parliament elections, Salvador Illa, has rejected the proposal of the president of the Generalitat and Esquerra candidate, Pere Aragonès, to hold electoral debates "where necessary" in order to include the Junts candidate in them, Carles Puigdemont, and that these could be three.

"If necessary I will go outside of Catalonia," said the president of the Generalitat in an interview this morning on RAC1, in which he also offered both Illa and Puigdemont a three-way debate to discuss "the proposals for Catalonia." . Furthermore, he added that "if Illa does not want to come", he is willing to have a face to face with the Junts leader.

However, the deputy first secretary of the PSC and director of the socialist campaign, Lluïsa Moret, has flatly rejected the offer, setting two key requirements to hold debates: that they be in Catalonia and that they have the majority of candidates.

Illa "will participate in those electoral debates that take place in Catalonia and have the participation of the majority of the list heads of political formations with representation in Parliament," said Moret, who added that the debates "are “spaces that enrich the political debate through the confrontation of proposals.”

“It is good - he maintained - that there are debates that fully respect the plurality represented in Parliament, and it is good that the number 1 of each list is the protagonist, because Catalans have the right to know first-hand the approaches they make. the candidates for the Presidency of the Generalitat.”

In addition, the socialists' campaign manager has set a third requirement for Illa to attend debates:  that they be broadcast, whether through television, radio or digital channels.
