Illa proposes a Government “above parties and ideologies” if he wins the elections

The PSC candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has proposed forming a Government “above parties and ideologies” if he wins the elections on May 12, to lead “the third great transformation” that Catalonia needs, which involves “recovering industry and public services.” To this end, he has asked citizens to vote for his party “no matter where they come from, whatever language they speak, think what they think and feel what they feel.”

This morning, the leader of the Catalan socialists presented the members of his candidacy for 12-M in an event at the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona, from whom he asked for “a very fine sense of responsibility” and defined how the team that will lead the “third transformation” in Catalonia. “We need an industry that recovers the thresholds of 25% of GDP”, a commitment that was already announced yesterday in Sant Joan Despí, “a once again excellent education” and recover investments in “water and renewable energy to have an economy that generates prosperity ”, he stated.

The candidate has pointed out that the first great transformation of Catalonia took place with the deployment of "self-government and municipal governments, with great prominence of the PSC", although he has recognized the "prominent role" of former president Jordi Pujol in this period. For Illa, the second impulse came from the socialists Pasqual Maragall and José Montilla, who promoted “an unprecedented expansion of social policies.”

Now, Illa proposes leading a third “necessary” transformation because “when Catalonia had to address it, it entered a lost decade,” which she has attributed to the process but also “to the increase in inequalities, instability, troubles, disagreements in Catalan society. and an institutional deterioration under the mandate of four presidents: Artur Mas, Carles Puigdemont, Quim Torra and Pere Aragonès.” He has also blamed Junts and ERC for Catalonia being “behind the tail” in the economic balance and public policies.

None of the multiple surveys published in recent weeks offers a result that makes a PSC government possible, despite being the winner in all of them, without the help of one of the two pro-independence forces. For the moment, Junts and ERC share their refusal to make Illa president. “If I win the elections, there will be a Government above parties and ideologies with the central mission of leading this third great transformation,” the socialist has promised. And he has asked for “a brave vote to move forward, but prudent to do so safely.” “The best Catalonia is yet to come,” he added.
