Illa announces the creation of a Women's police station to fight against sexist violence

The PSC candidate to preside over the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has announced the creation of a general women's police station to "fight against the increase in complaints of sexist violence" if he is proclaimed president. In the midst of the electoral pre-campaign, the socialist leader has highlighted his commitment to "security" and has also promised "a special unit" dedicated to combating illegal occupations and multiple recidivism.

In an interview in El Món a Rac 1, Illa has chosen to explain some of his proposals to reinforce security in Catalonia. According to the PSC leader, if he becomes president after 12-M, he will create a special police unit to confront the conflict in the areas with the most difficulties to combat multiple recidivism and illegal occupations. Furthermore, he has assured that there will be 570 more police officers each year ensuring the safety of citizens on Catalan streets and has announced a new general women's police station. "I am concerned about the increase in the perception of insecurity," Illa lamented.

In Catalonia, 13 women were murdered at the hands of their partner last year according to data from the Mossos d'Esquadra, 68.4% more than in 2022. In addition, complaints of sexist violence increased by 10.7%, reaching exceed 16,700.

Faced with a scenario in which the leader of the PSC reaches an agreement with the Popular Party and needs the votes of Vox to govern, Illa has ruled out votes in favor of the far-right party. "That's why don't worry; they came to our headquarters to insult us," he said.

In the interview, Illa was presented with different scenarios that could occur after the Catalan elections of 12-M. If she needs Vox's support, Illa has ruled out "meeting with them" and has confirmed that Vox "will not vote for her." However, he has put on the table a possible understanding with the PP, to whom he "does not veto."

In this sense, Alejandro Fernández, a popular candidate, has commented in Ser Catalunya that in order to reach an agreement with the PSC "they would demand clear proof from Illa that he breaks with the independence movement." "Here and in Madrid," said the leader of the PP.

Another scenario that may occur after 12-M is a possible investiture of Carles Puigdemont, Junts candidate. In this regard, Illa has refused to support the independence leader by "not sharing the project", and has vindicated himself by ensuring that he "aspires to preside over the Generalitat".

However, the PSC leader has proposed "waiting for the results of the elections" to talk about the form of government. Illa has assured that after 12-M he "will speak with all the parties except Orriols and Vox."

The former Minister of Health has also commented on other current issues, such as the investigative commission carried out in Congress for the mask case. Illa is called to testify next Wednesday, April 24, in the commission that will begin two days before with the statement of Koldo García, the advisor to the Ministry of Transport during the health crisis and who is among those investigated by the National Court for its relevance. to an alleged corrupt plot that enriched itself from the sale and purchase of masks.

In this sense, Illa has been "very calm" and has assured that "from the first day of the pandemic there are people who want to get muddy." "I am convinced that neither I nor any of my colleagues in the ministry have committed any illegality."

Furthermore, the socialist leader has acknowledged that he knew Koldo García, who "always went with Minister Ábalos" and Illa "saw Ábalos every day." "The case is reprehensible but we have acted and taken decisions to clarify it," he concluded.

Finally, the former Minister of Health has also commented that the financing model proposed by the PSC "emphasizes that it is fair, not that it is unique", as opposed to the ERC proposal. The idea of Aragonès' party is a system agreed with the State so that the Generalitat obtains the income from all taxes, agreeing with the State on a contribution and establishing a solidarity quota.

In this same sense, the socialist secretary has committed to putting pressure on the Spanish government to end the fiscal dumping of other communities.
