How to travel for free on Renfe's Cercanías and Media Distancia from September to December 2022

The Government has approved a series of bonuses to promote public transport and thus energy savings.

In order for Renfe users to be able to travel for free on the Cercanías and Media Distancia lines and at half price on the High Speed ​​lines, for 4 months, the Ministry of Finance will transfer 210 million euros to Renfe.

The subscriptions will be valid between September 1 and December 31, 2022.

Renfe will open tomorrow, Monday, on its website and in its application the registration to be able to request free season tickets for Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia and season tickets with a 50% discount for Avant. These tickets can be purchased from August 24.

Subscriptions can be purchased online. A space will be available on the Renfe website with all the necessary information to be able to request and use recurring season tickets.

You must register on the Renfe website and pay a deposit of 10 euros in the case of Cercanías and Rodalies, and 20 euros if the subscription is for Media Distancia.

If during the four months that these passes will be free of charge, the user has made more than 16 trips (four per month) with the pass, Renfe will return the deposit through the same payment method used for your purchase.

The Avant will have a direct reduction of 50%.

For regular users of AVE services without a public provision alternative and whose travel time is less than 100 minutes, a special bonus will be designed that will reduce the cost by 50%. The lines that will have these new passes are Madrid-Palencia, Madrid-Zamora, León-Valladolid, Burgos-Madrid, León-Palencia, Burgos-Valladolid, Ourense-Zamora, Palencia-Valladolid, Huesca-Zaragoza, León-Segovia, Segovia -Zamora, Palencia-Segovia, Medina del Campo-Zamora.
