Heavy rains activate alerts in the Balearic Islands and Catalonia

Catalonia and the Balearic Islands are on alert for showers due to the entry of a mass of humid and fresh air, which will leave precipitation throughout the territory in the coming days, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

In the Balearic Islands, the warning this Sunday is orange (significant risk) due to rain that may leave accumulations between 20 and 40 liters in one hour, especially in Mallorca and Menorca.

While the Catalan coasts of Barcelona and Tarragona are under yellow warning (risk) due to accumulation of up to 20 liters in one hour. Civil Protection of the Generalitat has activated the alert of the Inuncat plan this afternoon due to the forecast of rains that may be intense in the next few hours and accumulate significant quantities, especially on the central and southern coast and pre-coast.

The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC) also foresees the possibility of exceeding 100 liters in 24 hours in the central and southern coastal and pre-coastal regions, and especially in Tarragonès, Baix Penedès and Garraf.

The alert advises great caution in mobility in areas that may be affected by rain, and above all to avoid crossing rivers or flood-prone areas on foot or by vehicle.
