Gran Turismo Folgore, prestige and tradition

On December 1, 1914, Alfieri Maserati joined with his brothers Ettore and Ernesto to form the Società Anonima Officine Alfieri Maserati, creating a legendary brand that is close to celebrating 110 years of history. In these 11 decades of passion for cars, the house of the Trident has achieved countless milestones, both on the roads and on the circuits. In this exciting journey as a brand, perhaps its most significant and remembered achievement is the creation of the Gran Turismo concept, which the Italian manufacturer is now reinterpreting with its first purely electric propulsion model.

The Maserati A6 1500 is part not only of the company's history, but of the automotive industry itself. This revolutionary coupe, presented at the 1947 Geneva Motor Show, was designed by Battista Pinin Farina with the 1500 6CM racing engine on a tubular chassis, giving rise to a type of car that did not exist until then: the Gran Turismo.

The GTs offered style, luxury and comfort for traveling for the first time, but with sporty features. In 1957, the Gran Turismo in capital letters was born and one of the most beautiful Maseratis of all time. Of the 3500 GT, designed by Giulio Alfieri, 2,200 units were sold until 1964. Shortly before, in October 1963, the Quattroporte had been presented at the Turin Motor Show, another model that not only changed Maserati's commercial trajectory, but also Maserati's own. industry trend.

Faithful to the brand's spirit of innovation, it was the first sports saloon in history. Sixty years later, it remains the crown jewel of the House of the Trident. Maserati returned to its origins with a new Gran Turismo in 1998, the 3200 GT, which marked the starting point of the global renaissance of the transalpine manufacturer. It was powered by a 370 HP V8 engine and its boomerang-shaped taillights were the first to use LED technology in a production car.

And now, the challenge of electrification comes with a difficult challenge: entering a world free of emissions, but without betraying the century-old Maserati style. The answer is called GranTurismo Folgore, the first full electric in the history of the Trident, a brand that in 2030 will be completely electric.
