Girona will work on supporting diversity through education and leisure

Gerona City Council wants to promote values and support in diversity through education and leisure. That is why it has decided that diversity will be the theme of the communications commission of the Municipal School Council (CEM) for two courses (this one and the next).

Different actions and activities will be organized that will revolve around diversity. An example is the cineforum that will be held at the Truffaut cinema of the film 'Hidden Figures' or a theatrical performance by the Galliner focused on discrimination related to different types of diversity that generation Z suffers and how young people are empowered. to cope.

The Municipal School Council (CEM) of Girona has decided that it will focus the activities organized by the communication and relationship commission with the city regarding diversity. This is a decision that will encompass the actions of this course and the next and seeks to provide tools and resources to professionals who work in the world of education to work in this area.

The councilor for education, Queralt Vila, has highlighted that through these actions they want to help "destroy mental barriers" that still exist in today's society and work for a "more just, free and democratic city."

That is why the councilor considers that working on this respect for diversity and the values that it implies in the different stages of education is a potential to achieve this social maturity. Queralt Vila has highlighted that the CEM has already incorporated leisure education activities and that is why she highlights that they propose transversal work.

Some of the actions that have been organized for this course are a cineforum at the Truffaut cinema on Tuesday, March 19 at six in the afternoon. There will be a showing of the film 'Hidden Figures', which deals with the racial and sex discrimination of several women who worked at NASA. From here on, a debate will be held with two people who are experts in this type of discrimination.

The activity is open to all citizens, but above all it is designed for professionals and families. Based on the reflections of this cineforum, other aspects of coexistence can be discussed, whether in classrooms, at home or in any play space.

In June, the second activity organized by this commission will take place, which is a theatrical performance by the Galliner. This is 'Control Z', a function that will talk about the discrimination suffered by this generation for reasons of diversity (whether gender, sex, origin, culture or ethnicity, among others). In addition, he also wants to give a voice to the group to see how they are empowered to confront discrimination.

Looking ahead to the next school year, the president of the commission, Isidre Hernández, has announced that they will create another theatrical performance. In that case they will talk about discrimination against the LGTBIQ group.

Councilor Queralt Vila has highlighted that throughout the two courses they want to address "all types of diversity" that exist in society.

These activities are complemented with other resources offered by the Education area of Girona City Council, such as workshops to be held in schools.
