Girona offers schools an all-terrain wheelchair for excursions to the natural environment

Girona City Council has purchased an all-terrain wheelchair and has made it available to the city's schools for their excursions into the natural environment.

Its objective is that students with reduced mobility can enjoy their outings with the rest of their classmates with the same opportunities.

The Joëlette is a type of all-terrain wheelchair with a single wheel with which, with the help of two companions, people with motor disabilities can go hiking.

In the summer months, the city council will offer the chair to municipal youth centers. It is also being studied to transfer it to city entities that need it. If there is a great demand for the chair, the council will consider purchasing another one.

The chair features two arms, a chest harness, a headrest, two side handles, and a storage bag. It is suitable for children and adults.

The idea is that with this chair, students with reduced mobility from Girona schools can participate in the excursions they have in the natural environment and that the conventional chair cannot be used due to the existing paths.

The chair will be kept in the Fontajau pavilion because it is very well located for discovery outings of the surroundings near the Ribes del Ter park. In addition, it is an easy access point by bus that allows you to park and charge it in case the departure is outside the city.
