The British press specialized in the business and trends sector has chosen Girona among the 15 best small cities in the world to live in.

This is reflected in the classification carried out by Monocle magazine in the annual special in which it advances the main global trends for next year, which also includes the Spanish company Santander in second place, behind Naha (Japan) and in front of Petrópolis (Brazil).

Girona appears on the list in position number 14. It is "a Top 25" in which this publication selects cities with less than 350,000 inhabitants "that offer the best of a large city, while allowing a better quality of life with a close and enjoyable environment".

To date, San Sebastián had been the only Spanish city to be part of this classification, with 17th position in 2019 and 2020.

After Naha and Santander, Monocle is located in Petrópolis, Brazilian city located two hours drive from Rio de Janeiro. Completing the standings are Newcastle (Australia), Eindhoven (Netherlands), Basel (Switzerland), Victoria (Canada), Keelung (Taiwan), Dunedin (New Zealand), Toulon (France), Patras (Greece), Salzburg (Austria), and Elsinor (Denmark), Girona, Coimbra (Portugal), Lugano and Brescia (Italy), Augsburg (Germany) and Luxembourg.

Added to them are six other special mentions: Santa Cruz (California), Pula (Croatia), Charleston (United States), Essaouira (Morocco), Krosno (Poland) and San Miguel de Allende, in Mexico.
