Girona adds three new Girocleta stations

The public bicycle rental service in Girona, named Girocleta, has been expanded with three new stations located in the Plaza del Mercat del Lleó, Avenida Lluís Pericot and Paseo de Olot.

Each of these stops has 24 parking spaces, except the one located on Lluís Pericot Avenue, at number 48, which has one more. In addition, 40 new bikes have been added to the service, which now has a total of 340.

With these three new points, Girona's public bicycle network now has 29 parking areas distributed in different neighborhoods of the city.

The service currently has 4,105 users, the highest number since its launch in 2009. On average, 2,300 trips are made on a weekday and the most used stations are those in Plaza de Catalunya, Avenida Ramon Folch and the train and bus stations.

The deputy mayor and councilor for Ecological Transition and Urban Transformation of the Girona City Council, Cristina Andreu, highlights the will of the Consistory to expand the network of girocletas.

"Progressively increasing the stops until reaching the municipalities of the urban area of Girona while, in parallel, building a safe cycling network, are two key elements of the city model of the future," says the mayor, who emphasizes that "Girocleta is an essential ally" towards "more sustainable mobility".
