Gavi, favorite to succeed Pedri as the best young man in the world

Gavi could be one of the winners at the Ballon d'Or gala to be held this Monday in Paris. According to the Marca newspaper, the young Barça midfielder will succeed Pedri as the winner of the Kopa Trophy, which will confirm him as the best under-21 footballer in the world.

The Barça player will travel to Paris to attend the gala that will start at 8:30 p.m. Karim Benzema is expected to win the Ballon d'Or there, accrediting him as the best player in the world in 2022. Alexia Putellas will also win the award for the best player in the world for the second time.

Among the rest of the prizes, everything indicates that Pablo Martín Páez Gaviria 'Gavi' will receive one of those prizes that mark a career. The Kopa trophy, recently created by France Football, recognizes the best player in the world under 21 years of age. Gavi will compete for the award with Camavinga.

So far, three Kopa trophies have been distributed, the last one to the Barcelona player, Pedri González. The first in 2018 was for the Frenchman Kylian Mbappé after beating the American Christian Pulisic and the Dutchman Justin Kluivert by a large margin. Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Light was the winner of the second edition in 2019 after narrowly beating Jadon Sancho and Joao Félix. In 2020, the magazine did not award the trophy due to the COVID pandemic.

The winner of the trophy will come from the voting made exclusively by the players still alive who have won the Ballon d'Or at some time. Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi, Michel Platini, Ronaldinho, Zinedine Zidane or Ronaldo Nazario are some of them.

Barcelona will take home more prizes because Robert Lewandowski will receive the Müller Trophy, which recognizes the striker with the most goals from last season for his club and national team. He scored 57 between Bayern Munich and Poland.
