Gary Lineker will receive the Vázquez Montalbán award for sports journalism

The Englishman Gary Lineker (Leicester, 1960), communicator and former FC Barcelona player, will receive this coming Monday the Vázquez Montalbán prize for sports journalism, an award granted by the Barça entity.

The president of the Barça club, Joan Laporta, and the dean of the Association of Journalists, Joan Maria Morros, will present the award at the 1899 Auditori of the Spotify Camp Nou at 12:00.

Lineker is the fifteenth winner of the award. According to the jury, the award has been given to him for his communicative capacity, as well as for "his ironic and critical view of football", skills that "were already evident in his stage as a footballer".

What he said after losing to England against Germany in the 1990 World Cup semifinal has remained in history: "Football is a simple game: 22 run after a ball for 90 minutes and, in the end, the Germans always win."

Gary Lineker played for FC Barcelona between 1986 and 1989, and entered the world of communication after hanging up his boots, especially at the BBC, where he has led programs such as "Gary Lineker's Golden Boots" and, especially 'Match of the day'.

Lineker is currently an ambassador for LaLiga, commentating and analyzing the Spanish championship for viewers in the UK and Ireland on LaLiga TV.
