France hands over the ETA member 'Txeroki' to stand trial for a car bomb attack in Bilbao in 2002

ETA member Garikoitz Aspiazu Rubina, Txeroki, has arrived in Spain after being handed over by France to stand trial at the High Court for an attack committed in Bilbao on January 12, 2002 with a car bomb that caused material damage.

According to what police sources have indicated to Efe, the National Police has been in charge of guarding the former military chief of ETA and will transfer him to the Soto del Real prison in Madrid.

It was last January when the Investigation Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal decided to hand over the ETA member to Spain for a maximum period of two months, despite the fact that the National High Court had requested six.

Meanwhile, Aspiazu's defense had requested that the delivery be limited to one month because in the French prison of Lannemezan, where he is currently serving his sentence, it was easier to provide assistance.

Txeroki, who is also known by the alias of Arrano, was allegedly arrested on November 17, 2008 in France and the justice of that country, as well as the Spanish, have condemned him on several occasions.

In 2011, he was sentenced to 377 years in prison for 21 attempted murders and terrorist acts.

Born in Bilbao (Vizcaya) on July 6, 1973, he allegedly began collaborating with the Vizcaya command after the truce maintained by the terrorist group between September 1998 and December 1999.

Among the actions attributed to him is the murder of magistrate José María Lidón, his participation in the attacks against socialists Eduardo Madina and Esther Cabezudo, and against two civil guards in Capbreton (France).
