Four people die in an avalanche in France

Four people died today in an avalanche and three others were slightly injured in the Puy-de-Dôme area, in the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, near the city of Lyon.

According to the public broadcaster FranceInfo, the deceased and injured were part of a group of, in total, nine skiers who were surprised by the movement of snow on the Sancy peak, around 1:30 p.m. (12:30 GMT). The two remaining skiers were unharmed.

Most of the members of the group came from a neighboring area and were with a local guide who was one of those who died in the accident.
