Four arrested for manipulating a high voltage tower to grow more marijuana on a farm

The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested four men accused of manipulating a high voltage tower to obtain more electrical power and thus increase their illegal marijuana production in an abandoned farm in Torrebesses (Lleida).

The arrest took place this Wednesday, April 10, after an investigation that began at the beginning of March, as reported this Friday by police sources.

During the first surveillance tasks, the agents observed that people allegedly related to the marijuana plantation on the farm were making modifications to a nearby high-voltage electrical tower.

This fact was brought to the attention of the company responsible for the electrical network, which warned of a potential risk for people and a high risk of fires in the area.

The modifications had been made by people with specialized knowledge. According to the police, they had changed a transformer to provide more power to the farm buildings and thus increase marijuana production.

Around 8:00 a.m. on the 10th, technicians from the electricity company, with the support of the Mossos, accessed the high-voltage tower to restore the transformer that corresponded to the power line.

Once the farm's power was cut off, two men went out to check the reason why they had been left without electricity. Next, the agents were able to confirm that there was a marijuana plantation in full production inside and for that reason they arrested them.

420 marijuana plants were seized on the farm and it was found that a complex installation had been set up to promote the growth of the plants.

The same afternoon, two other men were arrested in Tarragona, who would be responsible for manipulating the connections in the high voltage tower and who were released the same day after testifying at the police station, with the obligation to appear before the judge when they are required.

The two detainees who were in charge of the surveillance and maintenance of the plants will be brought before a court today, Friday, in the investigative court on duty in Lleida.

The investigation remains open and new arrests are not ruled out.
