The Generalitat Fire Brigade have located the body of a 77-year-old hiker in Àger (Lleida), whom they had been looking for since Friday afternoon after the owner of the rural house where he was staying warned that he had not returned of a route by a via ferrata.
As reported by the Firefighters, the search device was activated at 7:11 p.m. yesterday and around 12:00 a.m. the body was located, which has been guarded until this morning it was possible to evacuate the lifeless body of the 77-year-old man. and a resident of Barcelona, who has died from causes being investigated by the Mossos d'Esquadra.
The man was staying in a rural house and yesterday morning he went on an excursion on a via ferrata - a sport that allows access to mountains and cliffs by means of cables and grips connected to the rock - in the direction of Le Perthus.
The man was familiar with the area and was in good physical condition, according to the Fire Department, which activated the search device upon receiving notice from the owner of the accommodation when verifying that the hiker had not returned.
A total of 16 Fire Departments, including two units from the Special Action Group (GRAE) and one from the canine group, as well as specialized drones, participated in the search for the hiker, in a place that was very difficult to access.
Finally, around midnight, a GRAE crew located the body on the north face of the Castro Urquiza Olmo road.
The GRAF agents of the Seu d'Urgell Fire Department (Lleida) have guarded the body all night, until the Mossos Mountain Unit troops were able to access the place this morning and proceeded to remove the body. .
The Mossos have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the death, since the causes have not yet been confirmed.
