Figueres imposes a fine of 10,001 euros on a bar for banning the entry of women

The Figueres City Council has fined 10,001 euros to a bar that had entry "banned" to women. Urban Police officers inspected the premises within the framework of the control campaign in conflictive establishments that is being carried out, ACN reports.

The police had received complaints from neighbors but during the inspection they discovered that the sign had been removed from the women's bathroom and was being used as storage.

The fine has been filed for sex discrimination, with a very serious infraction. In addition, the premises have also been reported because the terrace did not comply with municipal ordinances either. The mayor of Figueres, Jordi Masquef, says that this is an "exemplary" fine so that situations like this are not repeated.

In the last two months, the Urban Police have inspected more than a dozen premises that generate neighborhood complaints, but the forecast is to continue with the controls and reach twenty. In some cases non-compliance has been detected. The most flagrant is that of the aforementioned establishment located in the heart of the city - between Plaza del Gra and Plaza del Matadero - which did not allow women to enter.

The agents showed up to carry out checks and discovered that they did not allow women to enter. In addition, they had removed the identification sign from the bathroom and used it as a warehouse to store products. The police have opened a case for a very serious offense of discrimination on the basis of sex.

Masquef says that the controls will be maintained and that they are also in coordination with supra-municipal administrations to verify that the workers at the premises have the workers insured. "We seek to clean up the legal situation of these establishments and ensure that they comply with current regulations," he says.
