Ferrocarrils restores a vehicle from the historic 'carrilet'

The 'carrilet', as it was known for decades in the railway service of the Llobregat-Anoia line, now managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC). As reported in a statement, the public company has restored an electric motor of the 5000 series that served between 1960 and 1999 on this line.

"It is the only railway vehicle of these characteristics that is currently preserved in Catalonia," said FGC. The train has been incorporated into the Via Mètrica space, located at the Martorell Central station and enriches the collection of historical trains found there.

The objective, according to the president of FGC, Toni Sergarra, is "to do pedagogy and guarantee the preservation of all the historical material of Ferrocarrils." "It is as important to preserve history as to make it accessible to citizens," added the president of FGC.

The vehicle, which has been restored so that it can be seen as it originally was, was part of a series of 23 automobiles manufactured between the late 1950s and early 1960s.
