Feijóo reaffirms his leadership with the absolute majority obtained in the Galician elections

If the loss of the absolute majority was going to take its toll on Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the absolute majority achieved by the PP in Galicia will have to be read in terms of consolidation of the popular leader. It was the expression repeated yesterday at the PP headquarters, where confidence in the result was maintained from the first hour, although the experience of last July, when the election night ended the possibilities of being president of the Government, which Feijóo had brushed, pushed by the surveys.

Prudence was the tone throughout the day and the first hours of the scrutiny, and only when the count already made clear the absolute majority of the PP, the popular ones dared to claim victory and breathe easy. When the percentage of the vote already guaranteed the absolute majority, whatever it was, the president of the PP, accompanied by part of the steering committee, which monitored the election day on Génova Street, held a videoconference with Alfonso Rueda and his team, where there was no shortage of congratulations and phrases of relief, after the hardness of the campaign.

No one will be able to question the leadership of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who has not only managed to retain the absolute majority for the PP, for the fifth consecutive time, despite his departure to Madrid, but he does so after a campaign with everything in his power. against, to which we must add our own errors.

But if something has raised morale in the PP, with the absolute majority achieved by Alfonso Rueda, which guarantees him continuing to govern in his most classic fiefdom, it has been the poor result of the PSOE, sources from the popular leadership emphasize, which in the first consultation after the elections last July, and with the amnesty for those involved in the process on the table, it has suffered "a good stir", which in the opinion of the popular ones demonstrates the contrary opinion of the citizens to their agreements with the independence, and the pardon of former president Carles Puigdemont.

For this reason, the PP considers that now not only will no one be able to question Feijóo's leadership again, but what will have to be doubted will be the leadership of Pedro Sánchez, whom the PP will ask, but now with more arguments, to rectify, abandon his claim to amnesty Puigdemont, and correct his course and break with the independence movement. And, they emphasize in the PP, in addition to the poor results of the socialists, we must take into account that the PSOE's government partner, Sumar, has not achieved representation, even though its leader is Galician and exercises this role.

So the PP took revenge, at least a little, for the bad experience of the general elections, where despite winning it could not govern. The message that the alternative to the PP was an independence government, or similar to that of Pedro Sánchez, worked and the popular ones added a new victory to those obtained by the PP in Andalusia, in the municipal and regional elections or in the general elections, despite that Feijóo could not govern. Sources from the PP summarized what happened in one sentence: "The PSOE is defeated, adding is not enough and the brave right is extra-parliamentary", in reference to Vox.

In public, the general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, ignored Abascal's party, but did emphasize that the PSOE "must make a" deep reflection ", for what they have caused, "the worst result in its history", which the PP blames "having abandoned its principles, its acronym and its candidate." And the conclusion that the PP draws is that "the PSOE has obtained the worst result in its history, not to mention its government partner, who remains extraparliamentary".

The national leadership of the PP could not hide its satisfaction with the results, although the containment order was clear, and was demonstrated in the appearance of the party's general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, who assessed the results before the media. Feijóo is reserved for Tuesday, when the national executive committee meeting will be held. Tomorrow, the president of the PP will go again to Galicia, where he has dedicated himself to the campaign, to attend the meeting of the PP of Galicia, to celebrate the results.

Alfonso Rueda had yesterday, in his appearance after confirming the absolute majority, words of gratitude for Feijóo, "the first militant from Galicia" who "led the way for tonight's success, was where we asked him, and added." The acting president of the understanding, responsibility and dignity" and has said "no to privileges.

At a press conference, Cuca Gamarra doubted that Pedro Sánchez would know how to interpret the results, because "there is no longer PSOE, Pedro Sánchez remains, and if the priority is to stay in power, the result will not matter to him." A result, which for the PP is the first expression of citizens' feelings towards what Sánchez is doing, amnesty included.

In his opinion, "Spain and Galicia had a lot at stake" and the Galicians have voted, he said, "in favor of Galicia and Spain" and have shown that "between walls and bridges, they have chosen the bridges; between the mess and the stability, they have chosen stability; and between division and union "they have intelligently chosen union."
