Feijóo cools the expectation of profound changes in the party and leaves it in “adjustments”

The core of the PP leadership that has been accompanying Alberto Núñez Feijóo since he became president of the party will continue to lead the party, and the announced changes after the failed investiture of the popular leader will be limited to “a few adjustments,” he assured. himself yesterday in an interview on Canal Sur Radio.

There will be changes, but only as a consequence of the fact that Feijóo was not in Congress in the previous legislature, and now he will be. The president of the PP was a senator, and therefore the number two of the PP and general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, was also spokesperson for the popular group in Congress and, therefore, the one who asked the president of the Government.

Now, since Feijóo is in the Lower House and is president of the group, he will act as spokesperson in the major debates, so it would no longer be logical for the general secretary to be also spokesperson for the parliamentary group.

Therein lies the main change that Feijóo addresses, who sees no reason to profoundly modify his team when it is the one that has won the general elections and has achieved for the PP the government of 12 communities, plus Ceuta and Melilla, and the city councils of the most cities and provincial capitals. If the work of the leadership has been satisfactory for Feijóo, why change those who have been the architects of the triumph that the popular leader boasts of every time he can.

Until now, and since he has led the PP, Feijóo has been characterized by incorporating new people into his team, but the hard core of the leadership – Cuca Gamarra, Elías Bendodo, Esteban González Pons and Miguel Tellado – has remained intact. However, the popular leader added Borja Sémper to his team, first as electoral spokesperson and then as deputy secretary, and Carmem Fúnez, deputy secretary of social policies.

Another “adjustment” that Feijóo will have to make is the replacement of Pedro Rollán, appointed president of the Senate, which led him to abandon the deputy secretary of regional and local coordination. Other changes will be the appointments of the spokespersons of the Senate, which Javier Arenas occupies on an interim basis after the appointment of Javier Maroto as vice president of the Upper House, and of Congress.
