Extinguished the fire declared in an area of Tarifa after 12 days from its start

It took almost two weeks to completely extinguish the fire declared in the Betis area, in the Sierra de San Bartolomé in Tarifa (Cádiz) on Holy Wednesday. The strong easterly wind of the first days and the difficult forest terrain in which the fire was proliferating, have complicated the extinction work of the Infoca Plan, which finally, after extensive deployment and 12 days of work, have managed to put it out.

This was announced today by the Infoca Plan, the device against forest fires of the Andalusian community, on its Twitter account, where it also specifies that it has provisionally affected some 44 hectares of land.

Specifically, the area affected by the fire is distributed in 32 hectares of wooded areas, nine of scrubland and three hectares of urban land.

It should be remembered that this forest fire started last Holy Wednesday and it was not until Friday, April 7, when it was stabilized. After a weekend of work with numerous Infoca media, the fire was controlled around 12:00 on Monday, April 10. Since then, work has been done to finish off and extinguish this fire, as hot spots continue to appear in the area that have lengthened the power to declare the end of this fire.

The area affected by the fire was populated by dense vegetation, which prevented all the water discharged from the helicopters from reaching the surface of the ground, an aspect that complicated the extinction work, to which was also added the easterly wind that hit the area in the early days.

The Junta de Andalucía activated level one of the Infoca Plan at 02:33 a.m. on Holy Thursday, April 6, which caused some 70 residents of the El Chaparral neighborhood to be evacuated from the area as a precaution and before the threat of flames, being able to return to their homes two days later, when the fire was considered stabilized and alert level one was deactivated.

On the other hand, the Infoca Plan has declared very high and extreme risk levels in a good part of Andalusia, especially in the western zone.

Also remember that in the community the burning of stubble, pruning remains or grass is prohibited, as well as barbecues in recreational or camping areas, even if they are areas enabled for it, until April 24
