Exploring the Font Freda cave

In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we went to explore the Cova de la Font Freda, in the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac. It is a hidden cave and very beautiful to see.

Actually, there are two cavities, the big one and the small one. When the first surveys began in the 1950s throughout the Font Freda torrent, the Cova Gran de la Font Freda was called "Cave No. 2 of Font Freda".

For its part, the Font Freda cave, which is closer to the source, smaller and somewhat obstructed, was cataloged as "Cave No. 1".

They were formerly known for the charcoal burners, who would gather here to eat and, also, it was a discreet recreation spot for people who work in the forest.

The Cova Gran de la Font Freda has come to be known as the Cova or Balma de la Tudona, in memory of a lady who was not very friendly with the wood pigeons that hid in the cave and that she eliminated with blows of a club, according to the history.
