Everything prepared for the great Tomatina de Buñol that will celebrate its 76th edition this Wednesday

Buñol already has everything ready for the great La Tomatina party, which in its 76th edition will be held this Wednesday at 12 noon with the participation of thousands of people. Those who are still interested in participating can purchase tickets from the official website where there is also detailed information on how to reach the Valencian population and how to prepare for a unique event in the world.

In this edition, 150 tons of tomatoes will be launched, which will be distributed by trucks that, as every year, will transit among the attendees. The Buñol town hall has put 15,000 tickets on sale at a price of 15 euros. Another 5,000 tickets will go to direct sales. Residents registered in Buñol do not pay to enter La Tomatina. The organization of the Tomatina de Buñol does not recommend the participation of children under 16 years of age. In any case, the access of minors to the venue will be the responsibility of the parents or legal guardians. It should be noted that Buñol has its Children's Tomatina, which in 2023 takes place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26.

Rules of the Tomatina

Do not tear or throw shirts.

Crush the tomatoes before throwing them, the hit will be less forceful.

Keep a safe distance from trucks and from the bridge area.

Moderate alcohol consumption.

Consume plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun.

Follow the instructions of the security personnel.

In the event of an emergency, exit through the nearest street following the instructions of the security personnel.

There are water points throughout the municipality where tomato remains can be removed.

Origin of the Tomatina

La Tomatina de Buñol has its origins in 1945, when some young people broke into the middle of a parade of giants and big heads from the local festivities with no other intention than to have fun. The intrusion did not like everyone and the grace ended in altercation and anger. The first insults and shaking between the young people and other people from the town took place next to a greengrocer's, which led both sides to end up throwing the establishment's tomatoes at each other.

Since then every year the anger was repeated but advancing towards humor and partying. In 1980, the city council took the reins of this new custom, helping to make it popular. La Tomatina is already an international festival, it crosses borders and it is common for tourists from all corners of the planet to participate every year.
