El Rambo de Requena: the invisible fugitive

In the first months of 2020, a mysterious individual kept the inhabitants of the Serranos and Foia de Buñol regions in suspense, in the interior of Valencia. He occupied houses, stockpiled groceries and stole vehicles at gunpoint.

Due to his ability to camouflage himself and disappear through the forests and mountains of the area, the media dubbed him the Rambo of Requena. And Rambo lived up to his nickname by evading the Civil Guard controls again and again.

When the Spanish Government decreed a state of alarm to contain the spiral of infections caused by the Covid-19 virus, law enforcement forces concentrated their efforts on guaranteeing the application of the extraordinary measures that were decreed and relaxed the pursuit of the fugitive.

The sporadic appearances of Rambo de Requena continued in the midst of the pandemic and were increasingly more aggressive. In the village of Ahillas, he shot at point-blank range the winegrower Juan José Martínez, who was trying to steal his car.

The victim, however, did not suffer a single scratch. In a house occupied by Rambo, it was discovered that he meticulously emptied the pellets from the cartridges he loaded into his gun. In reality, his shots were blanks.
