Education studies a change of duties for a Lleida teacher accused of abuse

The Minister of Education of the Generalitat, Anna Simó, stated yesterday that the educational and services inspection is studying "precautionary measures such as a change of assignment and functions" for a teacher who is pending a trial for alleged sexual abuse.

According to elDiario.es, the department has granted a permanent position as a civil servant teacher to this teacher for whom the Lleida Prosecutor's Office requests two and a half years for alleged sexual abuse of a former student, when he was a philosophy teacher at the institute Marius Torres of Lleida. The Prosecutor's Office did not request precautionary measures to separate the teacher from the educational center, so he has continued to practice.

In its indictment of January 2022, the Prosecutor's Office maintains that the defendant proposed in August 2020 to the young woman, who he met by chance on the street, to go to his house to deliver books that he had duplicates. And when the girl went to pick them up, he invited her to sit on the sofa and offered to give her a back massage with oil. Her touching made the student feel uncomfortable, so she locked herself in the bathroom and called her partner to call her and have an excuse to leave the house, which she did next. The girl reported it three days later and, when her case became known, a former student joined her cause, pointing out similar behavior towards her years ago.

The teacher continued to teach at the institute. The family of the alleged victim asked the Department of Education to precautionarily remove the teacher, something to which the department did not agree, alleging that there was no final sentence. The following year, he changed schools, but continued to teach.

The then director of the Territorial Education Services in Lleida, Carles Vega, pointed out at that time that the events had occurred during non-school periods, outside the center and when the victim was no longer his student, with which he requested prudence at the time to act with respect to this teacher.

In the last merit contest held this year to stabilize the temporary positions, the professor obtained the permanent position.

Councilor Simó pointed out yesterday that although it is true that the teacher is pending trial and does not have precautionary measures, the department is assessing whether to take them by virtue of his authority, and has stated that if he takes them, he will do so "with the utmost as quickly as possible, guaranteeing the rights of all parties”.

Simó also announced that as of September a new protocol for attention to violence in centers will be launched, which aims to unify the existing ones.
