Drought exposes the old weapons factory in the Darnius Boadella swamp

It is impressive to see in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia this very desolate landscape, without water and with the cracked earth in the Darnius Boadella reservoir.

As the waters of the reservoir subside, the old weapons factory has appeared, built between 1768 and 1771 and which began producing in 1773. Above you can also see the Sant Sebastià hermitage.

When the reservoir is in a normal state of reservoir capacity, these buildings are always under water, in the municipality of Sant Llorenç de la Muga, in Alt Empordà.

The Darnius Boadella reservoir is at 12.74% of its capacity, when last year at this time it was at 31.50%. Although rain is being recorded in Catalonia this Wednesday, the water reserves in the reservoirs of the internal basins are at 16%.

Due to the drought, you can once again see the old weapons factory of the Sant Sebastià de la Muga colony, built in the mid-18th century and which was under the waters of the swamp, among other buildings.

The colony of Sant Sebastià de la Muga was built next to the river, it was destroyed in the 19th century by French troops and, later, it disappeared under the reservoir, where it is visible again.

The river that supplies the reservoir is the Muga, which also suffers from persistent drought. 12 municipalities depend on the Darnius Boadella reservoir, including Figueres, Roses and Cadaqués.
