Detroit equals the worst streak in NBA history with 26 straight losses

Two wins in 29 games. 26 consecutive defeats. The Detroit Pistons' numbers are the worst in NBA history. This morning they fell to the Brooklyn Nets to tie the worst streak in a single season, until now held by the Philadelphia 76ers from 2013-2014 and the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2010-2011. But these Pistons, led on the bench by Monty Williams, formerly of the Suns, and by Cade Cunningham on the court, still have the option of being the most disastrous team of all time.

Gone are the years in which the 'Bad Boys' of Isaiah Thomas, Joe Dumars or Bill Lambeer won titles and made a beardless Michael Jordan bite the dust. The era of Grant Hill or the title won at the beginning of the century by the rudimentary team led by Wallace and Chauncey Billups also seems forgotten.

The franchise is now a ruin despite Cade Cunningham (22 years old), number 1 in the 2021 draft, Jaden Ivey (21) and rookie Ausar Thompson (20). Too much youth and little skill has brought them to the brink of the abyss. But everything could get worse next Tuesday if they lose at home against the Nets, they would accumulate the worst streak in history in a single season.

But there is still another unfortunate border in their descent into hell that the Pistons could cross: that of the 28 consecutive losses that the Philadelphia 76ers accumulated from 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 counting the end of one season and the beginning of the next. To do this they would have to lose against the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors on December 30. With 29 consecutive losses they would enter squarely as the worst team of all time.

The league takes a break on December 24 before the special Christmas day, which will have five very attractive games: New York Knicks-Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets-Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers-Boston Celtics, Miami Heat-Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns-Dallas Mavericks.

But before the Christmas Eve break, the NBA experienced a very intense day this Saturday with a 40-point display from LeBron James, a triple-double in just three quarters from Luka Doncic, a beating by the Celtics against the Los Angeles Clippers, the seventh straight victory for the Bucks and the fifth consecutive victory for the Warriors.
