Díaz replies to Planas that the law allows food prices to be set

Yolanda Díaz has not taken long to answer her government colleague, Luis Planas. Only 24 hours after the Minister of Agriculture said on Monday that no more measures are needed to reduce the price of food, yesterday the Third Vice President and Minister of Labor replied that the current ones "are insufficient."

He also answered him in a second aspect. If Planas limited himself to asking the food chain to transfer to his margins the downward evolution that is being detected in production costs, Díaz published on Twitter a message favorable to the option of setting prices or margins for certain products. The vice president showed an image of article 13 of the Retail Trade Law, which includes these two possibilities of market control after hearing the affected sectors.

In this way, the internal division within the government coalition on how to deal with the increase in food prices is once again evident. Díaz insisted before the journalists that "everyone knows the legislation", and denounced what he considers an oligopoly in the distribution sector, with five large companies sharing more than 50% of the market. "We are not talking about a real market, we are talking about an oligopoly," he added, pointing out that this allows them to set "superlative" margins. He also recalled that since the summer he proposes to favor an agreement with the large distributors to facilitate a shopping cart with limited prices
