Davidovich reaches the Toronto semifinals and rises to world number 23

The Spanish Alejandro Davidovich reached his first semifinals of this season this Friday by beating the American Mackenzie McDonald in two sets in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1,000 tournament in Toronto (Canada), which allows him to rise to 23rd place in the ATP ranking, his best position ever.

The tennis player from Malaga beat McDonald 6-4, 6-2 in just over an hour and a half to become the first semifinalist in Toronto. In the fight to get into the final, he will have as a rival the winner of tonight's match between the second favorite, the Russian Daniil Medvedev, and the Australian Alex de Minaur.

Against McDonald, whom he had already beaten in the only precedent between the two -in 2021 in Stockholm-, Davidovich was far superior. In the first set he came back from 0-2 after losing his first serve to end up winning 6-4 with 'breaks' in the third and ninth games.

In the second set, the man from Malaga broke McDonald's serve twice to now reach a clear 3-0 lead that weighed like a stone for the American, who reacted with a 'break' in the fourth game, although Davidovich returned to direct to closing the duel with a 6-2 on the third match point he had.

Alejandro Davidovich is the current number 37 in the world and was number 24. From Monday he will become number 23 in the world ranking, the best position of his career on the ATP circuit.
