The Catalan pre-campaign has begun this weekend with the parties starting their engines, except for the PP of Catalonia, paralyzed by the silence of Alberto Núñez Feijóo on the candidacy of Alejandro Fernández. The movement of the national leadership weighing alternative candidacies has led the constitutionalist entities to take a step forward, which in a coordinated manner have launched a campaign to support the current president of the Catalan PP.
The S'Ha Finish platforms, the Bilingual School Assembly, Catalan Civic Coexistence, former presidents of the Catalan Civil Society, Impulso Ciudadano, the AMES union and also from the Lliga defend, as a common thread, Alejandro Fernández when understanding that his candidacy is the best asset for the growth of the PP, and to achieve “unite the strength of all constitutionalism.”
President Pere Aragonès announced the electoral call on Wednesday the 13th, and the silence of the national leadership of the PP and the search movements for other candidates is tenseing the situation in the party in Catalonia. From the sector close to Alejandro Fernández it is regretted that a campaign that could "go like a shot", with good growth expectations according to the surveys, could be harmed. In the sectors furthest from Fernández, the interference of Génova Street in the design of policies is also lamented, although the election of the candidate depends on the national leadership.
In this sense, consulted leaders point out that if what was wanted was a replacement in Catalonia, there has been enough time and now is not the time since it could cause too many injuries to the formation. Another issue that is put on the table is that if Feijóo does not opt for another candidate, what he is seeking is to protect a list that would accompany Alejandro Fernández. Time is of the essence, applications must be submitted by April 1.
