Honduran international Alberth Elis was placed in an induced coma and operated on last night after suffering a severe blow to the head in the Girondins de Bordeaux-Guingamp (1-0), in the French second division. The Honduran international attacker was left on the ground after an aerial duel with Donatien Gomis. A shock that lasted eight minutes and forced the medical services to evacuate the player from the field to receive medical assistance.

The 28-year-old striker was placed in an induced coma following indications that he had suffered serious head trauma when he collided with Guingamp defender Donatien Gomis early in the match. It was during Elis's transfer to the hospital that the doctors put the player in an induced coma: "A decision made due to his agitation at that moment. Since then he has been cared for in the intensive care unit of the Bordeaux establishment," the information states. They arrive from France. According to the newspaper L'Équipe, the first information suggests that the operation went well, but those close to him are waiting for even more information about his state of health and the possible consequences that he may suffer.

"I think he touched the ball first and I hit him. For a second, I was also unconscious. He lost consciousness. I hope he recovers," said Gomis, in statements reported by L'Équipe.

There have been multiple reactions from French football to what happened. One of them is Kylian Mbappé who wanted to send a message through his Instagram: "All my positive thoughts go to you, Alberth Elis."

Although the Girondins de Bordeaux has not yet issued any official statement on the matter other than a tweet wishing him a speedy recovery, the coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux, the Spanish Albert Riera, did speak: "Victory dedicated to our panther Alberth Elis, may you recover good," he wrote in a comment.

Girondins de Bordeaux midfielder Gaëtan Weissbeck also wanted to send a message of support to his teammate: "We dedicate this victory to Alberth Elis."
