Compromís advances that it will abstain in the vote on the reform of the Penal Code

Compromís has advanced that it will abstain, most likely, in the vote this Thursday on the reform of the Penal Code in the Congress of Deputies. The spokesman for the Valencian formation in the chamber, Joan Baldoví, explained that the modification of the crime of embezzlement "causes them doubts" and that they fear that it could lead to an "escape route" for those convicted of corruption. Baldoví has assured, yes, that his party is in favor of the repeal of sedition and legal change to force the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) to appoint its magistrates to the Constitutional Court.

"We have serious doubts," said the Compromís politician. He has asked to wait to see if there is any change between today and Thursday, but he has stated that his position, at this time, is not in the yes. One of the reasons, according to Baldoví, is that the reform could favor the corrupt and he has exemplified this with the suspension of the trial of the mayor of Gandía, the popular Arturo Torró, after the judge alleged precisely the reform of this crime.

The times with which this initiative is being processed do not convince Compromís either. The transactional amendment of the PSOE, after the initial proposal of ERC, was approved yesterday in the presentation with the approval of these two parties, today it has been validated in the Justice commission and on Thursday the entire reform will be voted on in plenary session. "This deserved a more serene treatment", criticized Joan Baldoví. Taking into account the scope of corruption in Spain, according to the Compromís spokesperson, the modification of the crime "cannot be addressed with these forms."

Baldoví has indeed highlighted his position in favor of the repeal of sedition, "to equate Spanish legislation with European legislation", and has also blessed the legal reform with which it is intended to unblock the renewal of the TC and force the CGPJ to what name their magistrates. For Baldoví, the members of the highest judicial body "are in default and breaking the law." For this reason, Compromís supports this proposal "so that they fulfill their obligation."
