Colombia once again imposes the use of masks in open spaces

The Colombian health authorities have announced that, given the increase in positive cases of coronavirus and in view of the typical festivities in December, the use of a mask will once again be mandatory in open spaces.

As detailed by the Minister of Health, Carolina Corcho, the mask will be mandatory for all those citizens who are not vaccinated and also for those over two years of age who are in open spaces and at risk of crowding.

Likewise, Corcho has added that the mask will also be mandatory in geriatric centers, on public transport and also during plane trips, according to the Colombian station RCN Radio.

"It must be taken into account that people over 60 years of age who do not have reinforcements or full vaccination increase the risk of hospitalization," said the person in charge of Health functions.

Minister Corcho has stressed that the decision has been taken jointly by the technical team of experts and that in the coming days it will be made official through the relevant decrees.

Finally, he has invited the population to complete their vaccination schedule. This decision comes just one day after Peru acknowledged on Thursday that it had entered a fifth wave of coronavirus infections. The Colombian health authorities have confirmed more than 6.3 million infections.
