Ciudadanos toughens the campaign and "imprisons" Puigdemont in its electoral spot

Ciudadanos wants to make itself heard in this electoral campaign where the last card of its political future is being played and has presented a harsh electoral spot directed against Carles Puigdemont. The former president appears detained in a prison recreated with Artificial Intelligence. The candidate, Carlos Carrizosa, pointed out during the presentation that this image reflects “what many Catalans want.”

The electoral video further raises the tone of the initial pre-campaign slogan, where Pedro Sánchez and Puigdemont are portrayed shaking hands and where the phrase “stop them” can be read. Another step, therefore, in this sequence. “Many Catalans – said Carrizosa – want to see Puigdemont pay for what he has done, we want to see him in prison, he is the person most responsible for the ruin that the process entailed: economic, social and image.”

The orange formation points out that 12-M is presented recovering the initial spirit of the party with an “irreverent and clear message, without half measures.” If the former Catalan president is the one who appears in prison, Sánchez is also accused of having facilitated Puigdemont's transition from "fugitive to president." This idea of detention that this beginning of the campaign outlines says “what others want to hide,” according to Carrizosa.

Ciudadanos tries to make its way with this harsh message after the failure of negotiations with the PP to seek to participate together in the elections, and after the popular ones offered to join their lists but without their own acronyms. With disparity of opinions within the party, in Catalonia they opted to attend the elections despite the fact that the polls do not grant them representation and understanding that the PP only wanted their disappearance, according to the sources consulted. In this sense, a strong message is outlined against the independence movement and against the investiture pact that Pedro Sánchez signed with Junts. A political space is being sought that the polls do not reflect at the moment.

In this “clear campaign” strategy, Ciudadanos also wants to send the message that in the future, the PP is getting closer to Junts. The campaign, according to the sources consulted, appeals to “citizen action so that the same thing does not happen again.” The return to the spirit of the party in 2017 is indicated, with clear messages and confrontation with the independence movement. Ciudadanos did not appear in the last general elections on 23-J.
