Chivite does not pass the first vote and will not be re-elected president of Navarra until tomorrow

The socialist María Chivite will be re-elected tomorrow Tuesday as president of Navarra with the support of the deputies of her formation, of Geroa Bai, of Contigo-Zurekin and, predictably, the essential abstention of the deputies of EH Bildu.

The three forces that make up the coalition add up to 21 deputies, one more than the opposition bloc formed by the force with the most votes in the last regional elections, the Unión del Pueblo Navarro plus the PP and Vox. The absolute majority of the Chamber is 26 deputies.

The first session of the debate took place this Monday without the candidate having obtained an absolute majority in the final vote, so tomorrow she will face the plenary session again with the aim of obtaining more votes in favor than against.

The three forces of the right-wing bloc have reproached the Socialists for their agreement with Bildu. And the leader of the Unión del Pueblo Navarro, Javier Esparza, has reminded Chivite that her formation offered her a hand to form a government and that she had rejected it: "This government was born broken," he assured.

In this line, the general coordinator of the PP, Elías Bendodo, has accused the PSOE from Malaga of taking over the presidency of Navarra "thanks to the heirs of ETA", given that the Socialist Party's relations with Bildu were one of the most decisive objects of debate in the municipal and regional campaign.

For her part, the spokeswoman for EH Bildu, Laura Aznal, stressed that her endorsement of the formation of a government led by Chivite is "a matter of responsibility and principle." "The right will return to the opposition," she said.
