Celsa begins its new journey with Cazorla as CEO

The Celsa steel mill yesterday started its new journey with Jordi Cazorla as CEO along with Rafael Villaseca as president. Cazorla arrived yesterday at the Castellbisbal headquarters and was received by unions concerned about the future of the company.

Cazorla – who is an industrial engineer from the UPC and an MBA from the UB – was until now general director for southern Europe of the packaging company DS Smith. Cazorla stated yesterday in a statement that "the current financial situation of the company will allow it, introducing the best market practices, to take the necessary operational measures to position the company as one of the largest steel companies at a national and international level. betting on the production of recycled green steel.”

On the other hand, the union CC.OO. issued a statement in which it asks the new managers for “an industrial plan, an investment plan and a training plan to ensure jobs, adapt the centers and recycle the workforce.” The union adds that "there is a climate of distrust towards the new management, because it tried to force a restructuring without any negotiation, reducing shifts and changing calendars." In fact, these days they are voting on whether to go on strike or approve the modified proposed plan, union sources explained.

After the arrival of Cazorla, Celsa's new shareholders - the creditor funds - are making progress in the composition of the company's new board of directors, which is expected to be formed in the coming weeks. Celsa also appointed Daniel Alaminos, State lawyer, as secretary of the board of directors.

The independent directors are María Esther Alfonso, Antonio Arenas, Francisco Javier Díaz-Gálvez and Luis Aurelio Martín. The new management team is working on a strategic plan that guarantees the viability of the company.
