'Cautivos del mal', at the Filmoteca de Catalunya

The 'Cinema within the cinema' cycle, which started at the Filmoteca de Catalunya on December 1, continues this Friday with the screening of the masterful Captives of Evil, directed by Vincente Minnelli in 1952. In it, Kirk Douglas plays a tyrannical producer a disgraced filmmaker who asks for help from a director (Barry Sullivan), an actress (Lana Turner) and a screenwriter (Dick Powell), whom he helped to succeed, but who have every reason to hate him.

This special cycle dedicated to how cinema has represented itself selects a series of films from very diverse sources related to the world of celluloid that show the ins and outs of the dream factory.

Theatre, painting, literature and music have used his works to rethink his ontology. But without a doubt, cinema is one of the arts that has looked in the mirror the most. Its history is full of references to its development as a mode of expression, as a cultural industry and as a social fact.

Among the titles that can be seen until January 31, there are some as emblematic as Vivir rodando, Movie, movie, The Apple of Your Eyes, Cinema Paradiso, The Purple Rose of Cairo, The Hollywood Game or Interview.
