Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands come together to pay tribute to Joan Fuster

Those responsible for Culture of Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands met this afternoon in Sueca to pay tribute to Joan Fuster on the centenary of his birth. The commemorative institutional event held at the Espai Joan Fuster in the town where he was born has served to highlight the importance of Fuster as a cultural agitator.

In addition, the curators of the commemorative activities of each territory have discussed the influence of his work and his figure in an act enlivened by the music of the Valencian Sandra Monfort, winner of the awards for best album and best revelation artist of the past Premis Carles Santos of Music 2021.

A unitary act of the three autonomies that complements the actions that the three territories have organized during 2022 to spread the relevance and literary production of the Valencian intellectual in this annual framework of the Any Joan Fuster celebration.

The Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Generalitat Valenciana, Raquel Tamarit, wanted to "thank the institutions and entities for attending this joint event, since the celebration of the Any Joan Fuster is not only for the regional institutions in each of their territories, as well as the entire research, cultural and social network that has joined in organizing activities this year to disseminate and publicize the work of one of our most important thinkers and intellectuals”.

Likewise, Tamarit has pointed out that "in our case, one of the aspects that we are most interested in exploring is the influence of European thought on Fuster and, at the same time, we want to take the opportunity to make his work known internationally". He added: "We have explored his mark and influence on creators from different artistic disciplines, such as music, visual arts or performing arts in our activities."

For her part, the Minister of Culture of Catalonia, Natàlia Garriga, recalled that "among our citizens, everything that makes us unique from each territory is as important as everything that unites us and makes us grow as a cultural and linguistic community" , and highlighted that "today's act represents the beginning of a stage of close cultural collaboration between territories".

In this sense, after the meeting held, the three ministers explained their desire to "concrete the Palma Declaration and set up working groups for all cultural spheres", according to Garriga.

Finally, the Minister of European Funds, University and Culture of the Balearic Islands, Miquel Company, has underlined "the importance of carrying out this act jointly between the three governments". Company has placed Fuster as "one of the great European intellectuals of the 20th century" and has highlighted "the great thematic scope of his work". In addition, the minister has recalled "the civic commitment and the reference in the defense of the Catalan language and culture" that characterized Joan Fuster.
