Catalonia, second autonomy where unemployment falls the most in October

Unemployment fell by 6,322 people in Catalonia in October, the second largest drop in the country, only behind the 18,700 in Andalusia. After breaking a three-month upward streak, the total number of unemployed remains at 347,996, according to data from this Thursday from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

Services lead the drop, with 5,460 fewer unemployed compared to the previous month; followed by agriculture, with 725 fewer unemployed, and construction, with 666. In industry, unemployment has fallen by 250 people, while in the group without previous employment, the unemployed have risen by 779 people.

By provinces, Lleida has experienced the largest drop in unemployed proportionally (-5.23%), with 1,019 fewer unemployed and has reached 18,457; followed by Girona (-4.96%), with 1,655 fewer unemployed and a total of 31,685. For its part, Tarragona has reduced unemployment by 3.26%, with 1,389 fewer, to 41,283, while Barcelona has decreased it by 0.87%, with 2,259 fewer unemployed, to a total of 256,571 people .

By sex, women represent 57.43% of the unemployed in Catalonia this October, with a total of 199,873 unemployed, while men account for 42.56%, with 148,123.

Regarding job creation, registrations rose for the second month by 4,031 people, according to data from the Ministry of Inclusion and Social Security. In October, the total number of affiliates amounted to more than 3,617,000 million in Catalonia, the highest figure for a month of October in the historical series available since 2004. Compared to the previous year, there were 117,654 more employees (3, 36%).

Likewise, the weight of young people under 25 years of age has risen and has gone from 5.7% to 6%, with 20,899 unemployed.
