Biden shortens the weekend for an urgent consultation on the situation in the Middle East

US President Joe Biden returned to the White House this Saturday hastily, thus shortening his weekend at the family residence in Delaware, to hold urgent consultations with his national security team and discuss with them “the events in the East.” Medium”, according to a message broadcast at noon this Saturday without giving further details.

The communication of this type of decisions is usually infrequent and normally corresponds to serious situations on the international scene. White House sources did not want to give more details about the content of that meeting and the decisions that could arise from it.

However, it has emerged that after returning to the White House, Biden plans to meet in the "Situation Room" with the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin; Secretary of State, Antony Blinken; CIA Director Bill Burns; the White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Charles Brown, among others.

Biden already showed extreme concern about events in the Middle East on Friday, when when asked about it at the end of a brief meeting with the media, he responded that Iran was going to respond “sooner rather than later,” in reference to an attack against Israeli interests. Moments later he added “Don't do it!”

The involvement of the current American Administration with the situation that Israel is going through is absolute, despite the fact that the position of the Israeli Prime Minister, Beniamin Netanyahu, is costing Biden himself support in his own party. In this context, the American president has been distancing himself in recent weeks from the decisions of the Israeli Government regarding the difficulties in getting humanitarian aid into devastated Gaza.

However, rising tensions after Israel attacked Iran's consulate in Damascus, killing seven Revolutionary Guards officers, and Iran's promise to respond appear to have changed things. Also this Saturday, the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, spoke with the head of Israeli Defense, Yoav Gallant, to express his absolute support for a possible Iranian attack.
