Bees on the run in the Pedralbes monastery

This Monday morning, in the gardens of the Pedralbes monastery in Barcelona, a swarm of bees has formed, as can be seen in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

It has been wonderful to be able to contemplate this amount of grouped bees protecting their queen. In the afternoon, around 4:30 p.m., some specialists have come to pick them up.

But just getting to where they were and, in a moment, all the bees have gone very quickly, surely to their new nest. I have been able to see it for myself at the time of capturing these photographs.

Precisely in spring, when the bee colonies are strong and have no more space to continue reproducing or collecting food (honey), they tend to divide by a natural process called swarming.

A percentage of the population, accompanied by their old queen, leaves their hive to perch, for example, on the branch of a tree, as can be seen in the images.

All this until the scout bees find a place to continue the development of a new colony. This is the natural mechanism by which the division of bee colonies occurs.
