Bee orchids can be seen at the end of summer

Abellera groga is not only the flower of bees, but of other insects. It is difficult to find it, but I have been lucky and have been able to photograph this field for La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

Actually, as can be seen in one of the snapshots, it can be seen from the Rodalies train, which will surely encourage the journey of passengers who discover this flower among the landscape.

The bee orchid is basically found in clearings in bushes and pine forests. It is distributed throughout the Mediterranean area.

It so happens that, during most of the summer, this bee orchid (Ophrys lutea) is dormant as an underground bulb or tuber. This serves as a food reserve.

At the end of the summer period and at the beginning of autumn, it already develops its rosette of leaves. The flowers have a large lip of intense canary yellow color, about 13 to 18 mm in length.

Its lip imitates in this case the abdomen of a bee. And the truth is that the most common is that these flowers bloom in mid-March to April.
