Badalona maintains more than 100 evicted homes in the area around Canigó Street

Some 400 residents of Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) are still unable to access their homes because the City Council maintains the eviction of 102 apartments and five commercial premises in the same block of apartments at number nine Canigó Street that collapsed on February 6 causing three fatalities. At the moment the technical inspection of the 21 affected buildings has been completed.

In parallel, the homes at numbers 110, 111, 112, 114, 115 and 117 on Àusias March Street, located at the back of the building that collapsed, have been shored up. Precisely in one of these buildings, the Badalona City Council has been forced to file a request for judicial authorization to be able to inspect the penthouse at 119 Àusias March Street because the owner denies permission to access the interior.

In parallel, the technical managers of the municipality met with the residents of blocks number five and seven on Canigó Street, where the work to reinforce the shoring continues, to assess the return to their homes, which the residents of the block have been able to do. first block, with the exception of two homes. On the other hand, at number seven a vertical crack has appeared in the interior façade that momentarily makes habitability impossible, due to the collapse in block number nine. Precisely, the vertical crack prevents shoring. Furthermore, according to the technicians "the cracking of the ceiling recommends preventing its use."

Currently, the priority is to increase the reinforcement struts of the structure in block number 11 of Canigó Street so that the architects can assess whether its residents can return to their homes.

On March 17, the diagnostic tests that will be carried out on the façade began, in addition to the analysis of materials in the laboratory, as well as carrying out the necessary calculations. The hypothesis of the poor condition of the ceramic materials with which the buildings of the development were built is maintained.

Once the diagnostic phase is completed, a project will be drawn up for each of the 22 affected communities, detailing the structural situation of the farm and the actions to be carried out. Works that will have to be undertaken by the communities of owners for whom the Consistory proposes aid to those who cannot cope with the works. These will be mandatory rehabilitations whose execution order can be issued by the Urban Discipline Service of the Badalona City Council.

Furthermore, in mid-March, Court 1 of Badalona gave authorization for the company hired by the City Council to access the building at number nine Canigó Street, which collapsed.
