Ayuso, on Catalonia: "After closing a bullring, drought and indoctrination have followed"

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has referred to the situation in Catalonia after ensuring that "after closing a bullring, drought, political control and indoctrination have followed."

"I don't know of a place where prosperity or freedom have made their way after a bullring was closed. Quite the opposite. Who will stop the authoritarian desire tomorrow, if today it doesn't suffocate and no one does or says anything? This is only going to get worse and freedom is defended by exercising it," he stressed this Thursday at the presentation of the posters for the San Isidro 2024 Fair.

Likewise, the Madrid leader regretted that a judicial appeal "has once again closed the Monumental de México." Along these lines, she has asked to "remember" the Mexican fans, the Catalan fans and "all those places where a party, because it is intrinsically Spanish, is being persecuted."

On the other hand, Ayuso has highlighted the result of the posters for this year's edition because "fitting everything together takes a lot of work." Likewise, he has stressed that "Madrid loves bulls because it knows that in some afternoons and in some tasks, there are moments of shocking beauty."

"The countdown begins for the bugles and timpani to sound, to see the lines full and to experience the spell that the surroundings of the square breathe before, during, and after the great evenings," he remarked.

The head of the regional Executive has also emphasized the "reunion with the great bullfighters" in the "most important bullring in the world, who will return to the region like every year, and who will make us dream of afternoons of culture and glory."

This year's San Isidro will consist of 21 bullfights (including the traditional La Prensa bullfight on June 5), 2 bullfights and 3 bullfights. In the last edition it attracted nearly 500,000 spectators, with an average of 21,000 per day.

From May 10 to June 8, the first swords on the national scene such as Morante de la Puebla, Alejandro Talavante, Sebastián Castella, José María Manzanares, Andrés Roca Rey, Emilio de Justo or Daniel Luque will make the parade in the Madrid arena.

There will be no shortage of names of interest to fans such as Uceda Leal, Paco Ureña, Manuel Escribano, Gómez del Pilar, Fernando Robleño, Francisco JoséEspada, Juan Ortega or Pablo Aguado, Borja Jiménez, Fernando Adrián -winner of the last edition- or Isaac. Fonseca.

Likewise, the participation of the leading bullfighters of the moment and the main current references in the art of bullfighting, such as Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza or Diego Ventura, is also planned. All of them will compete against those from the best farms, among which Baltasar Ibán, Victoriano del Río, La Quinta, Fuente Ymbro, Juan Pedro Domecq, Alcurrucén, El Puerto de San Lorenzo, Miura, Victorino Martín, Adolfo Martín or José Escolar stand out. .

Also presented tonight were the Extraordinary Charity Bullfight (June 9) and the one known as In Memoriam (June 16), which this year will remember the figure of the teacher Antonio Chenel Antoñete (June 16), as well as the Fair of the Community of Madrid, composed of the traditional Corrida Goyesca on May 2, coinciding with the Day of the Region, and a bullfighting bullfight the previous day.

"The regional government works to defend and promote the world of bullfighting, with the pride of knowing that the first bullring in the world is located here and that we have to preserve our cultural heritage, which belongs to those who left and those who are to come." For this reason, we consider this festival an Asset of Cultural Interest," defended the president.

During the gala, the president participated in the awarding of awards to the most outstanding figures of last season, awarded by Plaza 1, the company that manages the activities of the Plaza de las Ventas.

Ayuso has recognized the Sevillian bullfighter Borja Jiménez as 'Great Achiever' of the Autumn Fair. Victorino Martín has been distinguished as 'Best Livestock Farm', and the journalist Pedro Piqueras has received the 'Honor Award', for his professional career.

As for Youth and Bullfighting, this year it went to Cayetana Rivera, and Solidarity and Bullfighting went to Dr. Máximo García Padrós, head surgeon of the Monumental infirmary.
